about

I wrote this in 2013 when detention centres Nauru and Manus Island were full of legitimate Asylum seekers who should have been brought here to Australia to be processed. The song says it all, and I hope conveys my outrage and deep sadness. 'We must pay attention' and stop this happening in our name. Dedicated to all those who protested outside the gates of Brisbane's Detention Centre at Kangaroo Point for the 120 men held there.

lyrics

Baba, Maman & koodak means Daddy, Mummy & child in Farsi, the language used by the majority of asylum seekers in recent years.

Asylum they came seeking In boats old & leaking
Of their torture speaking When the boat comes in
No peace for Baba, No peace for Maman
No peace for koodak, surely it’s a sin
Zero information goes out to the nation
An abomination When the boat comes in

We ‘Police' our borders With internment orders
Racists applaud us When the boat comes in
No peace for Baba, No peace for Maman
No peace for koodak, surely it’s a sin
Why say a prayer Teach our kids to care
Then refuse to share When the boat comes in

Private corporations Profit from our nation’s
Freedom deprivations When the boat comes in
No peace for Baba, No peace for Maman ...
Children in detention Human rights suspension
We must pay attention When the boat comes in

People sent with all they've been through
To Manus and Nauru
What have we come to When the boat comes in
No peace for Baba, No peace for Maman ...
To our grief and shame hundreds still remain
In torment and pain When the boat comes in

If I’d a son or daughter fleeing famine or slaughter
I’d cross any water When the boat comes in
No Peace …
If justice we revere Say welcome loud and clear
and swiftly bring them here When the boat comes in
